Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism made him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
